Overlooking the bluffs of the Mississippi River
on the Southern University campus at Baton Rouge,
the Southern University Museum of Art features African and African-American art. All the galleries
are dedicated to the display of art from
regions including Mali, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Cameroon
and the Congo.
Included in the permanent collections of African-American art are works by John Biggers, Phoebe
Beasley, Allen Rohan Crite, Elizabeth Catlett
and Alvin Batiste.

The Louisiana State University Museum of Art is a state-of-the-art facility that features a permanent collection of over 3,500 objects, as well as a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. The permanent collection features drawings, prints, paintings, sculpture, furniture, porcelain, silver, lighting devices and textiles. The museum is located on the 5th floor of the Shaw Center for the Arts.
